Unhappy Are you feeling Blue?

BluePeople.com is for people who are affected by Depression and Mental Illness and for families, friends, sposes etc of those who affected by mental illness.

I decided to create this forum, because I myself suffer from Depression and Anxiety and am not ashamed to admit this, but unfortunately many people are too scared to speak up and it is not as simple as saying “just snap out of it” or "just relax" or "think on the bright side!" How many times have you heard that! Yes, all the time! So I have seen the need to start this site to help not only myself learn and to get better, but to help others as well. I have seen what my other forums has done for many people, such as creating new friends, a place to confide in with friends, a place were others understand and much more and I know that if BluePeople.com saves or helps just one person, then it will be worth it, and I truly believe that this forum will be a life saver to people on the brink!

I believe that BluePeople.com will help many people because Depression and other Mental Illnesses are one of worlds biggest killers of people world wide, already the site is getting new members. So I ask you, if you, a friend of yours, a family member suffers from Mental Health issues, please tell them about BluePeople.com, tell them to sign up and speak out.

There is already tons of information on the site, and I will be putting alot more info on the site in the next few weeks, all I need now is members to sign up, contribute by way of posting threads, replying to others questions, offering advice from personal experience and so forth. The site is open to any person from around this little planet we all live on if you suffer or are interested in mental illness such as ....

I have also created a blog on BluePeople.com at WordPress.com called

AreYouDepressed

Thanks for just being here and please feel free to have a browse of the site, and maybe even consider signing up as a member... its free! If you sign up, you are not only helping yourself, but you will help others in the same situation as you, you will most likely gain information, tips, advice, and help with getting rid of the Stigma associated with Mental Illness and much more.

Thanks for just browsing the site, and an even bigger thank you for being a part of the site, I look forward to getting to know you all... its going to be a great road, things are looking great, there really is light at the end of that tunnel, can you see it? I can!

Billy

PS: The beautiful photo above is by the Dutch Painter Vincent van Gogh, who himself suffered from depression and committed suicide, he painted this picture in 1890 of a man that can symbolize the desperation and hopelessness felt in depression. It is a beautiful painting, haunting and describes exactly what depression and mental illness is like

Depression and anxiety: It's not a sentence.

George Wheatstone, founding member of Dirt Settlers, suffers anxiety and has suffered depression. Had to give up live gigs over 10 years ago because of this…now only composes music in the home studio. Music and art is my therapy…and my belief in Jesus. I’m never concerned about telling people about my condition, if asked. Suffering anxiety and/or depression is not a sentence. I work a 9 – 5 job, have completed a Masters degree at Uni (as a mature age student) and create music and art, and I love life.

Re: Are you feeling Blue?

That’s cool Billy. I’m not quiet when it comes to mental illness.
One thing I did learn is that you need to talk to someone because “you can’t just snap out of it”. I have suffered depression, anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I had to talk to someone because at one stage I had become house bound…I could not leave my house for about 12 weeks.
Sometimes your immediate family don’t know what to do because they fear the situation or they just don’t understand…one thing they should do is talk.
I feel there is still a stigma attached to the illness. When I have a toothache I’m not about to sit around suffering the pain…I’ll go to the dentist. It goes with mental illness…I will go to see a counsellor. Counsellors are available to staff where I work…they can join the dots for you. I encourage anyone who may feel overwhelmed or confused at any time in his or her life to please talk to someone.

Sounds like you have exactly the same as me mate, I have been diagnosed as having very similar, plus I believe I also have a form of PTSD ... but I am getting there slowly but surely, been battling it for quiet sometime now ... I am in the Navy and cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me ... its amazing. I am not ashamed of it, nor do I wear it as a badge of honour ... but it has definately made me more wiser, more compassionate and hopefully one day I will use the skills I am learning to help others in need.

Turtle I think you should be careful of mixing herbal medicine with pharmacuetical medines. There is good info on anti depressants here
