Question: Do you have ANY insurance on your Ute? If so,what kind....full comp;third party property damage??

I 'aint got none!!!!! Sheesh!

My bro reckons it's like a lottery....paying each time to bet on whether or not you'll hit someone/or vice versa.

Makes me just that LITTLE bit more careful when I'm driving!!! I can't afford insurance...and can't afford to have a accident!!!

Nope I havent got insurance..I'm a Red P Plater driver under 21

I had my first prang a few weeks ago... cant afford to get my ute fixed, probably a couple of hundred dollars worth, the guy I hit (an XB FORD in schmick original restoration condition) was really nice about it.. sent me some quotes etc adding to about a 1000 dollars.

Gave me time to pay for it and pay it off... I mean I'm genuine etc I'm not gonna run away he knows where I live he has my number and I own up to my own mistakes and pay off debts.

So I have to pay out 1000 + mine...

now... insurance... 3rd party only for me is around 800 dollars with a normal standard excess of 300-400 (depending on insurer) then under 21 excess 300-500 (depending on insurer)

So... so far if i crash I already have to pay 800 a year for insurance anyways...plus another 800(depending on insurer) on fees and excess... which equals 1600.....

my crash was cheaper than that....... So.... I figured instead of throwing your money away to an insurer..... put it safely away into a bank... put 1500 in a bank a year..monthly or whatever and chances are your not going to have a crash every single year.... I thinkI'll consider insurance once I'm over 21 (or 25) I'ts bullshit if you ask me the amount we have to fork out! we are young and are in jobs that dont pay us that goddamn bloody welll

Whats the worst that could happen you hit a 50,000 dollar car and go to court? what are they going to do if you cant pay it? well the court turns around and says... well seeing as your income isnt that big you must pay so and so amount each week...

I'm really sorry I know my posts are usually full of laughing etc but this bloody insurance SUCKS BIG TIME when your only 18 !!!!!!

What are you supposed to do if your not always in a stable job how the hell can you afford to pay insurance EVERY month if you dont have a job? then your policy gets cancelled and blah blah blah...and blah blah blah..

ANYWAYS.. thats my vent.. sorry utegirl70 but it was only a few days ago that I phoned a few companys and half wouldnt bloody insure me!!!

most of the time if the vehicle is under finance you have to have full comprehensive. i own mine but i definately kept the insurance up.

If you dont have the vehicle, then how do you get a job to get money to pay for the insurance?

Its a vicious cycle lol and its just harder when your younger I guess.

My insurance is almost costing me more then the vehicle itself? Work that one out, the only reason I cant afford the insurance is because I'm a P-Plater and they make it impossible...

They think that by putting up all these costs etc they are covering their butts because a p plater is more likely to crash than a person on their opens... which is true dont get me wrong inexperienced drivers yes...

But the p- platers who are making it difficult for us other young drivers can afford to pay that kind of money and afford to have souped up turbo charged cars etc! We are all suffering because of it, even people with their opens are suffering from it, premiums going up etc.

You need a vehicle, its independancy and not everywhere has public transport.

Anyways if I choose not to insure my vehicle because I cant afford it, its my choice, I'll suffer the consequences and I pay off any debts I have.

Like Utegirl70 says.. you become a more better driver because you cant risk crashing because of the costs involved.

How many claims actually go through insurance companies anyways? most of the time its settled with cash outside the insurance companies unless its a write off.

My first ute cost me 7 grand and I didnt have full cover on it, I just couldnt find the money after everything was paid each week, I never pranged it but I really would have been in the shit if I had. When I bought my new ute there was no way I was gunna drive it without full cover, I cringed when I first got the insurance but cos of no claims bonus it has dropped heaps and now I just look at it as an essential thing if you have a vehicle, just like tyres and an engine, if ya dont have em you aint goin nowhere.
My younger sister wrote her car off a couple of days after christmas, she didnt have full cover and had just finished paying it off, it really would have been worth the money for her to have paid the insurance even if it was really high, cos you just dont know when its gunna happen to you, I reckon if you can find the money to pay it then its really worth it, it might be easy to say that your gunna be a good driver but its a bugger when something does actually happen.

Its hard sometimes to insure a vehicle when the insurance costs more than the vehicle
but its also best to have insurance and advice anyone to atleat have third party property........ cause it can cost you otherwise. Bundy Babe brings up another point about the cost and it is a legitimate one and thats a risk you live with and although bundy babe probably won't like me saying this.........If you do drive on the road you should have atleast third party...........sorry hun but I know sometimes we just can't afford it.

If I had the $$$$ I'd insure her...same with house insurance. There's alot of folk out there who just cant afford it.
Whenever my ex had a car,he always had fully comp insurance..mainly 'cos of the insistance of the loan company.
It freaks me out too that if my Ute is stolen and torched(as is the case these days with young wankers with nothing better to do)I am stuffed.
It's like any insurance....car,house,life.....it's all a lottery. Let's hope my number doesn't come up any time soon.

I haven't got any coz they won't give me any because the motor is so big for a lancruiser and I am only 22. Also because it was such a huge modification. It has to be registered as a hot rod and that costs way to much, so I have to just drive extra careful.

Yeah they won't do it either. I've tried all in the phone books and they tell me either the tyres are to wide the engine is to big or I am to young, and that I should try and insure it as a race car street machine or hot rod.

Bundy Babe, I hear ya! I'm a p plater too but unfortunately our statistics for p platers doesn't swing in our favour. I have my car insured and registered in my mums name but I'm listed as a driver. Makes heaps more sense until I'm off the P's (July 23rd!) Cuts the costs heaps too
