Driving While Tired...

| Driving While Tired... I've heard that driving while tired is almost as bad as drink driving... And after yesterday, I'm inclined to agree. Aaron and I left Deni probably around 8am, I'd had a solid sleep but for whatever reason, felt drowsy. Aaron had 3 hours of sleep in a fold up chair, so I let him snooze in the passenger seat... I was drifting all over the place... kept telling myself I could close my eyes for just a second or two and it would be okay... Almost hit a cow... Drifted across lanes... It was horrible. Aaron woke up after a while and noticed me driving badly, kept poking me to keep me awake, and eventually said he'd take over. So I got comfortable in the passenger seat and fell asleep. Woke up an hour later to "F*CK!!!!" the sound of gravel crunching, and branches hitting the side of the car... Which isn't so bad, until you realise we were on the OTHER side of the road.... Aaron was still damn tired, must have nodded off, drifted across the right hand line, into the trees on the other side of the road... We both realised how damn lucky we were to make it out of that without a scratch (well, the mirror got scratched and now all I can see is the ground, but hell, what a small price to pay). I ordered him to pull over, and we both had a power nap on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, and later on I continued driving.... It really is scary to think what could have happened... Maybe another metre to the right... Or if a car had been coming in the other lane... So to everyone, all those bullshit signs on the road about "Arrive Alive" and all that? Pay attention....

| Re: Driving While Tired... Yes, you guys are very lucky indeed! Not a month ago, I right off my beloved kingswood driving home from Sydney tired. 70ks' out of Albury and I fell asleep and hit a side railing. F*cked the side of the car. I was very lucky as I hit a white post to begin with which woke me up and allowed me to pull toward the road again. If that hadn't have happened I woulda fallen over 11 feet into a gully and more than likely not survived! | |
