Exhaust note

Was wondering if anyone has any advice. I have a Holden 6cyl 202 red motor with lukey extractors. I have a new 2 1/4 exhaust to put on it (its a straight through at the moment). I have to buy a muffler of some sort. I want to make it fairly loud (but not too loud) and give it a nice note, maybe a crackle would be great. What sort of muffler/ hotdog will be suited to do this. Or is it preffered to go for a bigger exhaust alltogether (but I dont want to spend to much money on it). Any help would be greatly appreciated, and some $$$$ figures too if possible.

Could be the go catatak... there is a possibility I may be going to Shark Bay after the long weekend, a friend of a freind has a panelvan up there that has been rolled and the driveline is all A1 including a T5 Borg Warner Gearbox. So If we do that maybe we can come for that dinner hahhaha.

Re: Exhaust note

G'day Ben, as far as your exhaust goes I would stick with the 21\4 inch. If you want a good crackle go for a 12 inch hotdog. It will be fairly loud but if it is too loud you could always put a second one on and reverse them both so that the louvres are facing the back. I would also suggest putting a dump pipe on just after the muffler, that will also give it a good crackle without sounding too farty. Good luck.

Just went out in the shed and double checked...its only 2" will this still make an alright sound?? You hear people say 12" hotdog and 15" hotdog what is the differnce between the two other than the size.

Re: Exhaust note

Well I got my exhaust done last friday I got my 2" exhaust fitted, a 15" hot dog and got the exhaust bent so Its dumped out behind the wheel.

Its semi loud but could be way better. I was hoping It was going to be louder. But I suppose this way it wont draw any unwanted attention. I think as the exhaust points straight into the ground it may muffle the sound a bit. Its definatley doesnt sound like a jap car etc its got a small rumble to it......hopefully someone may mistake it for a V8 hahahhahahah

By the way the best bit is it only cost me $88....my exhaust fitted, they supplied the hot dog and bent my exhaust so I came out at the wheels...Thats bloody cheap so Iam not complaning at all!!!!

Re: Exhaust note

202 with extractors, shoulda gone a 12 inch hotdog with 2 inch pipe, straight out the back! would of sounded sweet! i got the 202 ford motor (holdens sound better for some reason... grr!), with 2 inch pipe and a 12 inch dog, sounds quiet enough to get past the coppers, but when it gets up around 2,500 - 3,500 rpm it lets the whole town know i'm crusin 'round (i know cause i tried!) barks like crazy!!

I ended up getting stickered and one of the reasons was cos it was too loud, but it has been sold now and been replaced by a v8 cruiser.
