| Re: few questions bout having me ute legal yeah on that site i checked out it said 100mm clearance on them too, but i seen shit loads with em on the ground, but i guess it's the cop who pulls y over is the biggest thing. i asked me old man coz he is a cop but he wasn't sure coz he aint done traffic in nearly 27 years.. but he was pretty sure they couldn't be any further down than your clearance of the ute..

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: few questions bout having me ute legal I got tested at 94db at a roadside roadworthy check and passed, so it might pay to actually ring Vic Roads on that one. Clearance is 100mm (4 inches) except if it is a moveable object such as mudflaps which can be as low as 75mm (3 inches), however the law is open to interpretation, depending on the mood of the police officer at the time. If you do put side skirts on, make sure they are capped at the ends - otherwise you'll find yourself with a nice yellow sticker on the window. Here's a can of worms one that different police have interpreted differently - baby seats in utes. I have a 2yo son and he goes everywhere with me in my ute. Legally I can have the baby seat in the ute, providing I don't have any passenger side airbags and also providing the mounting point is factory fitted. Engineers are not legally permitted to drill and tap the parcel shelf of a ute. So how do you police that law regarding the mounting point, when all the driver has to say is that it was factory fitted - who would argue such a trivial point on the side of the road? Ironically I had my son with me one day when I was pulled over for a breath test and the two officers actually said i was ok and didn't end up testing me. Anyway the moral of my story is simple... most aspects of the law are open to any police officer's interpretation.
