Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Kids and Rodeo's. I was watching Today tonight, when i saw my Hometown Shame... A buisness man who iv'e had first hand dealings with and who has a reputation in Bendigo has been entering his Kids into Rodeo's to compete in bullriding. Hes sons Dakota and Taylor are now aged 4 and Almost 7. Theyve been braught up in the Rodeo scene all their lives from there older brother competing, and there father Dave in Roping and riding. They have there own Mechanical bull that they love to ride, and now there dads entering them into live rodeos (without the rodeo comittee knowing... he gets away with it because he runs the rodeos and makes hes own rules). So did anyone else see the footage of the ids riding on the news tonight, and what are your thaughts...? Personally i thaught it was discusting, the kids were clearley distressed and have been pushed into doing it by there father... I suppose its like any other sport where the parents are hoping for there kids to achieve goals in a sporting career, but c'mon, these are 4 year olds, stears and bulls... Sometimes kids shoudl be kids, and when there little devaloping bodys have matured and there brains are old enough to make up there own minds on what they want to do. BUT... what do you think?

| Re: Kids and Rodeo's. if you ask me those bloody animal welfare n liberations people should get a bloody life get over it. if a kid wishes to enterrodeo hecan if he or she dnt like it well fae enuf they dnt have to do it again.with the kids rodeo its not like they are out on that calf steer or junior bull alone with just a fighter to help em the chute staff are there to help as well. course rodeo is a dangerous sport i have had a fair few injuries not life threatning or broken bones yet but it will happen oh well ###t happens get back on n try not to make the same mistakes agai. ne ways kids rodeos being banned is crap calf ridign steer riding etc is wat they use to help those kids that want to ride bulls n try n be the next brendan clark or troy dunn ( australias 2 champion pbr riders) can be without having to get into the sport strate on rookie bulls.anyways its a load of crap n thats my whinge n thoughts agree or disagree i aint never gunna change me attiude towards the animal welfare n libaration people wen it comes to there point on rodeos.

| Re: Kids and Rodeo's. i saw it, and personally thought it was a load of crap. Like i said to the old man, dad plays footy, there's a bloody good chance son will play footy. Even if a lil nudge is needed. In any sport ya gonna get hurt, and when you participate in the sport you know to what extent, even if you are 4 or 5. | |

| Re: Kids and Rodeo's. I saw the preview for it but actually missed the full story, I think there is a lot of stretching the truth going on once again in the media to make it more dramatic than what it really is...I mean come on they said the kids were riding a bull, now to me a bull is 1000kg of beef that will kill you not a bloody poddy calf that might suck on your fingers given the chance. Without seeing the full story I can not comment on anything more but I can tell you the media would have made it into a mountain instead of the mole hill it actually was. | |

Rousy, yeah i do agree with ya, if the kids are wanting to do it, but it wasnt about the animal Lib it was about the kids... bloody animal lib has to rear its ugly head somewhere along the lines!

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Kids and Rodeo's. I watched it and spotted a few things. Scenario 1 Old mate from Cowboy World runs rodeo's, which have falling attendances due to a couple of incidents in the last year. So, how does he get people to go to his events? Publicity - everyone knows there is no such thing as bad publicity, meaning that suddenly his next event has a huge attendance full of people that are curious. My gut feeling is that he created this whole story for the above mentioned reason. Some people need to realise that sometimes it is better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open their mouth and remove all doubt. Scenario 2 Feel good hippies hear about a serious injury or death in a sport and decide that the viewers of national TV have nothing better to do than watch these unemployed bozo's rant and rave about how that particular sport should be banned. Here's a few examples of other sports that the do-gooders have called for to be banned: Drag Racing, Motor Cross, Rallying, Boxing, Horse Racing, Equestrian, Rugby League, Yachting, Hockey, Open Water Swimming, White Water Rafting, Weightlifting, Aussie Rules Football, Lacrosse, Shooting, Archery and Cycling. The list could go on... but honestly, these hippies need to have a shower, get a job and make a contribution to society. I've been going to rodeo's all my life and some of my dad's relatives have been bullriding, barrel racing, roping etc since the sport has been around and I can honestly say I've never seen one death - lots of injuries, but no deaths. The only time I have witnessed a death in any sport was during a game of indoor cricket.

Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Re: Kids and Rodeo's. Personally I think there was alot of media hype as usual. Agree 100% if kid wants to do it give them a fair go, if they don't then don't push them. You can get injured in any sport, I personally have had my fair share from netball and athletics, but it never stopped me because I had a passion for those sports. Maybe if they hadn't banned mutton busters these little kids (4yo) would still be content to ride sheep rather than having to go straight to "bulls".
