Thumbs down Driving Lights in WA: Whats actually legal

I moved my post to a new thread coz i thought WA people whould be interested to read it
I know this discussion is old but ive got some info from the Department of planning and infrastructure. I rang them coz i wanted to find out the actual law coz there is allot of speculation about what is legal and what is not.

You must not have more then 6 driving lights fitted to your car, yes that includes headlights and if you own a ute such as an XH which has split lights for low and highbeam then the standard lights alone count as four. so that means legally only 2 additional driving lights on the vehicle. any more then that and your illegal. As far as positioning goes. It is illegal to mount spotties on the roll bar of the ute, its too far to the rear of the vehicle. For now it is legal to mount spotties on a roof rack, But those laws are in the process of changing. According to the guy at the DPI, by the end of next year it will be illegal to have drivinglights of anykind mounted above the drivers head so even on roof racks it will be illegal.
Apparently the cops in WA have been ordered to crack down on illegal number and mounted spotties.

As far as my opinion goes this sucks. I wanted to mount 2 more spotties on a roof rack, already have 2 on the bar at the front. but because my ute has split headlights im already at my legal max and i dont want to risk a yellow sticker. Just thought id let you all know, i figured it was a valuable piece of information Thats tru and correst according to the department of planning & infrastructue

its the same with most utes/cars these days its the same with fog light why put them on ute/cars when ur not aloud to have them on its the same with tint ur only aloud to have 35% tint on ur car and ur not aloud to have tha chrome at the bottom out it but ive been getting away with limo tint on my nissan and the most of the top half of the windscreen tint but i havnt got any sticks yet but the cops looked at me every were i stopped coming back from over east and cos of the 4 big spot lights i got on the front of my nissan

Re: Driving Lights in WA: Whats actually legal

a mate moved to wa for a job in the mines. though70k a year was great money until he bought some food. cost him a bomb. when his contract runs out hes back to nsw. couldnt even transfer his gun license from here to wa. couldnt take his pistols. and ammo costs nearly twice what we pay here. he also had his car defected by wa cops because a headlight broke on his way over and was waiting for one to come in.

Re: Driving Lights in WA: Whats actually legal

geeze is there ANYTHING in WA that isn't considered an illegal addition to your vehicle.
We had been in WA for around 29hrs before we got pulled over by the boys in blue for our 5 poster. They didnt canary us thankfuklly, just gave us a warning that yes they are illegal. And as usual they gave us a different explanation as to why the bullbar is illegal (apparently it would be legal if we took the middle post off?!?) But they never mentioned anything about our clearance lights or the driving lights we have mounted to the rollbar.

Re: Driving Lights in WA: Whats actually legal

Hi Guys

I got a yellow sticker on my cruiser ute an yea it was on new years and im a p plater so that doesnt help i spose but this cop was a complete asshole telling me that your only allowed 4 forward facing lights but yea it is 6 and my neons which he didnt like and said they were illegal and my 24 clearance lights which are apparently illegal but they arent, in the 3 documents (attached) which i was emailed directly from the WA police says that 6 forward facing lights anywhere on the car forward of the halfway mark so if your rollbar is forward then your in luck and the clearance lights are an option thus meaning you can have them if you want.

One thing Milsy told me is that the new falcon cop cars have the 4 split headlights, 2 fog lights and 2 additional spotties and i mightin b good at maths but im sure that adds up to 8, bastards think theyre above the law

Re: Driving Lights in WA: Whats actually legal

We drove the Tracta (see picture) down to WA from Darwin, spent a bit of time in Perth, over to York and a week or so in Dongara. Saw plenty of cops look at us but not one pulled us up. As you can see it has 10 forward facing lights, plus clearance lights down the tray sides and across the roof rack arrangement. Maybe it was the NT plates, but the cops all just waved and kept driving.

Nar it's not the nt plates but just the attatude of the coppers in wa it seems to me that ppl with 4x4 seem to have a get out of jail free card when it comes to lighting and roadwerthy stuff ... harf the 4x4s rolling around round here get away with every thinmg but if you drive a plane old ute ya done in for ... `
