| defected exhaust and its requirements hey guys, I am just wondering if anyone else has had a defect on a modified exhaust but still is under the required limit. On the way back from Sandy Hollow BnS, my brother got pulled over by the police and got 2 defects, the first mudflaps (which is understandable) and the other one was his exhaust, the police asked him if he had paperwork for his modified exhaust, which of course he did not so the defect notice said that he had to return it to the standard exhaust or get the right paper work. Now we had never heard of this that you have to carry paper work to note how loud it is, it has got a hotdog and a 3 inch tip on it but it is still under the limit, so could i get some feed back about this and what you think and if you have heard of it. cheers guys Jason

You need a mod plate for any serious mods in QLD (Supercharger etc), but not for an exhaust. Check the Dept of Transport Regulations, might say something about it there. Cheers Darran |

| Re: defected exhaust and its requirements jason ,laws concerning exhaust and noise pollution in NSW have been updated. You probably need to get in touch with the RTA Technicle people to find out where you stand.

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: defected exhaust and its requirements watch the lowering of cars in nsw. not just 100mm clearance. the hieght between the wheel center and the highest point of the guard as well can bring you undone. 100 mm under a vr/vs commodore makes the other measurement too low.

| Re: defected exhaust and its requirements Yeah half the time its just your luck as to whather you come across a cop with either a bad hair day or too much time on his hands. I can understand noise regulaions in the city with houses around you and all, but i recon noise restrictions should be like the bullbar laws they supposedly have- if you are drivin in the country where there are less people, then it shouldnt be a worry. I know of plenty of utes and trucks in the country that are obviously over the limit (including mine), but it seems thats cool with the cops... the way it should be. If you dont annoy too many residents then your ok. I recon it comes down to treatin your neighbors like youd treat yourself- with courtesy. (i hope) | |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: defected exhaust and its requirements Technically on all vehicles fitted with emissions control equipment, such equipment is not to be modified in any way. However, most state legislation has it worded in such a way that it is open to interpretation. Utes and panel vans are a little more open to modification due to less cabin area for fumes to get inside of.

| Re: defected exhaust and its requirements i got off vic roads the Australian Standards print out and for an exhaust it states that it need to have an emmissions control and one silencing device and be under the legal limit required for that car. and it can't stop before the cab finishes. E.G why stacks are aloud on utes has to run past the back of the cab.. but check with your exhaust shop of how loud your ute can be coz i know my VY 3.8 can't be louder than i think 94db or 90.. the guy told me some cars vary on how loud they can be but i'd check on that too.
