A decent sports exhaust with extractors will all but put you over their DB limit, let alone a set of truck stacks. They're cracking down on it everywhere!

Thanks for the warning. We are usually spot on with the speed limits going through meredith but never really worried about noise levels. This is from the EPA Site -
" It is an offence to own or use a vehicle that exceeds noise limits in the vehicle emissions regulations. EPA can require a vehicle to be presented at one of its approved motor vehicle noise testers to determine compliance with the limits. A list of EPA approved noise testers is available.
A member of the public can report a noisy vehicle to the Traffic Management Unit at their local police station. If a police officer assesses the vehicle as being too noisy, the vehicle will be referred to EPA for noise testing."

So in otherwords yes if he can hear ya he can report you to the EPA and they will send you a notice to go and have your noise levels tested. Well guess the local copper at Mereidth is warning everyong first!!

Ok, i can understand everyone panicking and getting worried about this, as it'snot only the utes, but other vehicles that are being targeted aswell.
I have recently had an argument with a copper her in Rocky about the decibel thing.
He told me my car was too loud. I asked to his his DB reading, when he couldn't provide one it all went out the window.
They need proof to yellow sticker your vehicle, or to try and say your vehicle is too loud.
I have heard cop bikes coming around the courner before i can see them, does that mean they are too noisy aswell?
They can test you in the "approved testing place or premises", but how can they test you in an every day environment where there is constant traffic, and hustle and bustle around? You can never get a true reading at any point in time when it comes to DB reading coming from your vehicle.
They have radar guns for proof of speeding, where is their DB reading guns for proof?

VEHICLE SAFETY

I have recently updated my skills at a course on Vehicle Safety Inspections and EPA requirements. You can be assured that I will be on the look out for modified, noisy and unsafe vehicles. To all the ute boys, if I can hear you r ute before I see it I will be submitting an EPA Noise Notice without your knowledge and you will receive the correspondence in the mail from the EPA. Items such as bull bars, extra lights and aerials will also be checked.
As far as what this guy has said about "submitting an EPA Noise Notice without your knowledge", how the hell are they going to prove that it was you or your ute / car in the first place? As far as you know, someone is picking on you and giving you grief................ too be honest, it sounds gutless to me.
Maybe i am being too cynical, who knows? But i have dealt with coppers in regard to my vehicles on a regular basis, and i know to be able to do anything to you, they need proof.

I asked my roadworthy inspector that very question, cause a cop nailed me for being too loud when my ute was at idle!
Anyway, he told me it was decided "at there discretion" whether it's too loud or not! which i think is utter crap!
So basically, if they "think" it's too loud, you're stuffed!

This is totally unfair for 2 reasons.
I have heard this one type of motorbike in the name of Harley Davison. Now you can hear them way before you see them. So they should be on the beware list to.
Now for number 2.
Speedboats. Especially the ones that are racing in special events like the Mildura 100 and evens like that. Now these boats are even louder than any motorbike I have ever heard. So if this is the case these two should also be very afraid of the EPA.
I'm lucky as mine has just got that nice little rumble note to it and I think that I will be okay.
Oh by the way, I didn't put these down to offend anyone its just an obsavasation (sorry spelt wrong) of what I have seen and hear.
But some of these small jap cars running around with big exhausts should be on the list to.

i heard harleys could get away with it coz they come standard with a loud as f**k exhaust, but dunno, if thats the case mayb we should convince holden and ford 2 bring their utes out with standard straight thros!! lol
