lights on roll bar

can, or does anyone have factual information on the "laws" or interpretation of the laws regarding lights (bull or driving) mounted to the roll bar

I think a ($300.)find and 3 demerit points is a bit much (NSW)

Re: lights on roll bar

Hey Ron,

I don't know the actual laws for sure, however after having enough mates get done everytime we headed into NSW, and now that I'm living here, here's the little run down I gave someone else the other day. This is just based on what the NSW cops have had to say (and write on the infringement notices).

I dunno, I just work here, I'm a Mexican and don't tend to get hassled too much with Vic plates and the boobs that I carry on my chest (sounds terrible, but I really don't get hassled, my male ute driving mates hate my guts because my ute is far worse than theirs).

I believe that if you have covers on your lights you won't get hassled. That's why you see people getting around with hessian bags over their lights. Contact the RTA and ask them for info, but I don't think you'll have to take them off if they're covered. Worth a go.
Dunno if this helps mate, don't tell me they're starting to get nasty with utes again in Aldonga? I'm only just learning how to work the stupid indicating at roundabout and lane change rules in this strange land, they already don't like me, hoping the boobs will continue to keep me out of trouble...

I dont know in concrete but im sure any light that faces forwards thats not on the front on the ute is illeagal, and makes it canary-able. I know its dumb too man- but its the law.

Every state seems to have different rules and regs, (or opinions). Best ya check with the RTA.

Thats correct,
Any and all drving lights must be affixed t the front of the vehicle, the roll bar is not the front of the vehicle, thus making them illegal, even if you get a fine I doubt there would be a defect notice involved (cant remember the exact amount, I'll find out tommorow night and make a post in this thread)

Just a little offtopic, any white light facing rearwards must only come on when reversing, making rear-facing worklights (eg. mine) illegal.

You would have to either be a real smart-arse, or very unlucky to get fined for it but.

cheers

Re: lights on roll bar

ha ha i had this convo with the cop the other day.... i asked him what was illegal and what was legal.. he told me that lights on the roll bars are illegal for the simple fact that the lights reflect off ur bonnet and back in ur window.. then he said that if u have a good country cop they will not bother with it but if ur in the city be expected to be pulled up..

Re: lights on roll bar

hmm but if you're in the city what does it matter cos u never use high beam so they're never on anyway...
The reason i was told they were illegal is that its above your line of sight and going over a rise approaching traffic will be getting your lightforce XGTs before you see them. i wont put any spotties on my roof anymore, mainly because it seems more and more people are being done for it. i will still put work lights on though.

Re: lights on roll bar

WA - Yes this IS the correct information by the way.

6 forward facing headlights in any combination. If you have a vehicle where the lo/hi beam are in one casing they count as 2 (left and right). If your vehicle has seperate lo/hi lamps, they count as 4 (1 lo left, 1 hi left, 1 lo right, 1 lo left).

This means, if your vehicle has headlights encased together you are permitted to have 4 extra 'auxillary' lights facing forward. And as such, if you have seperate lo/hi beams, you are permitted to have 2 extra forward facing 'auxillary' lights.
