Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Bullbars....Confusion Reins!!!! Hey everyone, Now, I know that are a few other topics/postings on bullbars and about how they are supposedly "illegal" (especially the 5 posters), but I have had enough of the stupid stuff that coppers say and do. Myself and my other half (aka Bullbar, or Ben) parked the ute (2005 Ford BA RTV MkII) outside of Repco in Bendigo. When we got out of the ute, we saw a copper pull up behind us in an unmarked cop car. He proceeded to get out of his vehicle and approach Ben, whilst holding a bretho in his hand. Ben and myself both thought that he just wanted to give Ben a breath test, but NO he wanted to have a "chat" about the bullbar on the front of the ute. Now, Ben has had this bullbar for roughly 13-14months and has NEVER and i repeat NEVER had troubles with any other coppers. When Ben was looking around for a bullbar to put on his ute, he did thorough checks with several companies and designs to make sure that it would comply with Vic road laws. He made a decision about a bar and the company that made it and fitted it told him that it is compliant with both NSW and Vic road laws. But according to this particular copper, it doesn't. The copper started to explain why it doesn't comply with the laws and these are some of the things he said: (1) the edges must be radiused, not sharp or burred...guess what the edges are radiused! (2) the bullbar must not lean forward from the front of the ute...which it does only slightly (3) the bar must follow the lines/shape of the front of the ute...which it does! (4) he also thought that it sat too high...well DUH, it is an RTV so it is going to sit higher than normal The copper took photos of the ute, so that he would have a defence/proof if we were to take futher action against this in the future..which we ARE GOING TO! Ben explained that the main reason the bar was on the ute was to protect/minimise damage to the ute and it's occupants should and animal strike occur. The copper then asked Ben "how do u think a kangaroo feels when it gets hit by that?", which Ben replied with "not too good". The smartbum copper than said "when then how do u think a pedestrian would feel?"

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Ban Bulls**t Before Bullbar's How dumb is this copper...how can u compare a kangaroo to a pedestrian? If your stupid enough to not use the designated crossings at roadways, or if your stupid enough to walk out in front of an oncoming vehicle then yes, u do deserve to get hit. I know that sounds harsh, but it's true. Maybe they should start educating people on how to cross the roads safely, and not continue to blame drivers (particularly those with bullbar's) for causing serious injuries to pedestrians when they accidentally hit them. The copper gave Ben a notice, telling him that he has till the 11th of January to take the bullbar off his vehicle, or the ute rego will be cancelled. We are both so sick of cityslicker/big town coppers who don't have a clue how important or valuable these bullbar's are in minimising damage to both vehicle and occupants should you hit an animal. So we thought that we'd do something about it. Myself and Ben are going to start researching everything there is to know about bullbar's and how they save lives, not cost them. We want to make changes in how coppers and politician's view the use of bullbar's and they cant make us take them off our vehicles!! So if you have nay horror stories, any bad experiences, or any photos related to animal strike damage, please email me. My address is garnsjen@hotmail.com Thanx

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Ban Bulls**t Before Bullbar's hey Billy. No thankfully we didn't get the canary. It's funny, just after we left Repco, we saw the same copper pulling someone else over! Maybe he didnt book anyone over the long weekend, so he was a bit irate! I am just sick of the politicians and coppers not understanding how bullbar's a a safety item on utes. We need to start standing up to our rights. Why can't the cops and politicians target bad drivers who actually hit pedestrians and not otherwise good drivers that just happen to have a bullbar on their vehicle? and maybe people should learn how to cross a road SAFELY!!

WELCOME TO BENDIGO!!!!! untill i got that text form you telling me what cop it was that booked u i thaught it must have been the same one that kept doing me over... hes due back from his 5 week holidays, and he'l be ready to bite down hard on anyone around the traps... he never took photos of my ute but has told me so many times that hes going to take me to court. what was with taking the pics??? thats totall crap! and in VIC i thauhgt it was still leagal to have bullbars that lean forward from the ute... its only in WA where the bar's have to be cruddy.... i'd help u guys out, but i dont want to be targeted by every cop in this town... i have trouble avoiding them already. good luck with it though..... and write down everything the cop said in a DIARY, its the only thing that can help u in court if he was being a smart ass.. a diary is classed as a leagal document in a court room.

| Re: Ban Bulls**t Before Bullbar's I had the same thing happen to me in my old ute. I was pulled over for my bullbar and got told the same reasons as you guys. I was also told that my aerial was a potential hazard. It could 'block' my view! What a joke. Anyway, I was so wild because it was the 2nd time in a couple of months that I had been pulled over for the bar. I went to the RTA headquarters and asked to speak to the boss. He came out, saw the bullbar and told me that all the reasons why the Copper booked me was correct. He also said that there were heaps of other things the Copper could have booked me for so I should count myself lucky!! (Things like sharp edges on side skirts etc). I told him that the Police should be spending their time catching bad guys than pulling over innocent ute drivers! That didn't go down well......I was lucky he didn't give me what the Cops call a 'smart-ass' fine.... I say take off the bullbar, get it ticked off then put it straight back on again. That's what I did, and it worked ok!!!

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Ban Bulls**t Before Bullbar's I can't believe you got pulled over for that Bullbar Rachel; it looks heaps more placid than the 4 poster I had on Pegasus; and the local cops have only taken a look at my five poster which is now on the ute and don't seem overly worried about them. |
