Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: The Hoon Laws It's all good and well to blame police, but you have no idea how much paperwork and bullshit regulations to deal with in the job. And dont forget not every car is a highway patrol car, a nissan patrol caged truck cant do near the speed of an SS highway car. Also in NSW about 98% of cars **other than highway cars** are not fitted with radar. The amount of crap that NSW police put up with (i assume other states would be the same) makes it very hard to do a job like HWP. anyways - thats just my opinion cheers steve

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: The Hoon Laws I might just clear that last post of mine up! I can definatley see your point there cb205 and in a way I was trying to highlight that issue of 'paperwork'!!! I'm not in the job but I have always been around people who are in the job. When I say that the cops are soft I am mainly referring to the number of people that they turn a blind eye to or let off with a caution simply because of the paperwork and time that it takes to charge the person.... not to mention the time for the court appearance and the like. Of course all the time filling out the paperwork is spent in vain knowing full well that the offender will simply get a smack on the wrist. I have always said that it should be easier to charge and arrest someone. The paperwork should be a matter of ticking a few boxes or something similar... something that only takes a few minutes to do rather than a whole shift. I mean after all the cops should be out on the road not in the office. I think that the Government could be doing a h*ll of a lot more to back the cops up and make their jobs, in regards to the paperwork, a lot simpler. If they could charge 10 people in the same time it took to charge 1 person maybe they would start to get respect back. People wouldn't 'flaunt' the law in front of the cops because they would soon realise that chances of them being arrested are much greater. And back on the topic of the hoon law.... I have seen the paperwork that needs to be filed out to impound a car. I mean WTF? Charge the driver with dangerous or wreckless driving or whatever, give them a card to tell them when and where to pick the car up, take the keys and impound the car! Hope that makes sense and clears it up a bit! |

| Re: The Hoon Laws a more uniformed approch to the matter is whats needed. Firstly they recognise this as "HOON" laws, yet have no set guidelines as to what a "hoon" is exactly, so if you take my example (and yes don't point it out i was being stupid), i was doing 82 km/h in 40 zone with roadworkers, and school children on the footpath, lots of traffic, and was going around a blind bend at the time in a feral ute with a 5 post bullbar, i simply got a $250 fine and 3 demerit points, ok so i got caught speeding, but the point is i was driving recklessly and dangerously, in an unroadworthy car, around people whos lives i was risking. that in itself should of constituted "HOONING" and my car should rightfully been impounded. 3 months later, i was in lancelin, in a deserted gravel carpark on the outskirts of town, with no one around, no people no buildings, nothing to hit except bushland, and i decided to cut a nut, all the old snotbox could do was a 1 1/2 single leg donut, now that in no way shape or form put anybody in danger. However within 15 mins, 3 police cars turned up with 6 officers, they cancelled my license on the spot for 6 months, (and threatened me if i took it to court my ute would get a yellow licky) and gave me $350 fine. work that one out!!!!! you see footage of people bagging 'em up on the street in such credible shows as today tonight, us young rekless "hoons". When was the last time someone got killed doing a burnout?? Yet the general public continues speeding on, we continue to fill govornment coffers with speeding tickets, from those oh so convenient multanovas and as usual the real problem get's left at the wayside, and young drivers get punished under ridiculous legislation! we need a set law that states a "HOON" is endangering themself or people around them at the time the offence is taking place, not simply, oh no that 180sx is doing a standstill better confiscate it, while soccermum drives her old volvo through a stop sign while speeding and talking on her mobile! Rep Power: 3 ![]() | ive seen alot of stupid behaviour that the driver deserves having the book thrown at them, i admit i do it too but thats on 6000 acres of our own land with no innocent bystanders... but anyway i dont know why but the cops around here seem to be bored shitless, while KA has one of the biggest drug problems, a 30 year old family friend driving a nissan navara ute with mulesing gear on the back, spins (well i wont say spins, squeals is more the word) the inside wheel at a smooth intersection in town, and is threatened to have his car impounded under the hoon laws. come on hey. i dont have a problem with the law, there just needs to be consistancy... |

| Re: The Hoon Laws yeah i also think that consistency is the main thing. The police shouldnt pick and choose who they charge and who they caution.. it just makes the law seem like more of a joke... We all do silly things on the road lets admit it, but whether u get caught or not ur still doin the wrong thing and you can either hurt yourself or someone else

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | i think something there needs to be more of are the police operated race days at places like ravenswood and waneroo raceway and the private drags at kwinana. they started doing them awhile ago and im not sure if they still are, havent heard much of them, but its one way to get a number, there will still be the people who do it in the streets cos it makes them feel big. but alot of these "hoons" just need a safe controled, aswell as purpose built venue to get their adrenalin rush. well they do it with drug addicts and injecting rooms. so why not?? |
