Re: Driving lights

spottlights on roll bar/ sports bars are illegal, due to the fact that if your comming up to the crest of the hill you may blind on comming vehicals before you see them. thats the reason i was givin by a vic roads officer.

Re: Driving lights

Just keep them covered when u aren't gunna use them mate. I've got the 4 Hella's on my canopy, and have asked a dozen cops about it and said as long as they are covered they pretty much can't touch you.

Re: Driving lights

you may have driving lights fitted anywhere on your vehicle however they must be fitted in pairs where practicle, i know the law used to state that they could not be more than 1.4 metres from the ground (i lowered my old ute to be able to comply) but that is old law, land rover actually had the national legislation re-written when they released the new sports model defender or discovery with 4 lights mounted into a roof rack type deal that were a factory fitted thing, therefore giving us ute owners more ammo on the nice people in blue, but in general if you dont approach them with attitude then they will just warn you or even let you off scott free, i have been pulled over leaving the deni ute muster purely so the nice person in blue could read some of the stickers i had on the ute cos it went past the tree he was hiding behind in a blur..... work that out!

Re: Driving lights

I got a fine leaving the Gulgong B&S last weekend when the boys in blue pulled me in for a breathe test i checked with the Highway Patrol boys here and they said they had to be no more thaen 1.5m off the ground. I have 2 big and 2 smaller lights on the Sports bar. I also had a local officer tell me twice to get them off. Do you think I would be better off gettin some that i canput covers on

Re: Driving lights

Kym is spot on there, thankyou, oh thankyou Land Rover, hahaha.
Funny how it all changes when a car manufacturer wants it changed.

The cops here tend not to mind too much as long as they aren't too big, and like I said, if they have covers on them they tend not to care how many you have.

Good rule to remember tho: the bigger they are, the more they stand out; the more they stand out, the more of a target you make yourself.

Re: Driving lights

aggie, the reason they fined you for it is because they cant defect you, and if they cant defect you they cant fine you, you have been caught up in a catch 22 if it was me, i would tell them to bash it, but i may have an advantage on a lot of people, i have to know these laws backwards, and know where all the loopholes are as i modify/drive left hand drive trucks yes you read that right for a living, but another way you can beat them, this got me off i would conservatively say more than 50 times in all states of the country is find some one you know who has a contact in the police force (or is one) and aqcuire a copy of the mod laws handbook in your state and when ever you get pulled over if they are assholes, get it out and ask them which page they are reading from so that you can verify that they are trying to knock you off under the same rules you have modified your vehicle by!!!! they may not like but they dont have to HEHE!!!!

Re: Driving lights

just reading about the driving lights on the roll bars and the question is if factory cars can have them on and the cops can have them on the roof of there cars and divy vans why carnt we is it better to see where your going on a country road so you dont run off the road, who uses there driving lights in the city streets any way i would rather see a set of lights that high up than these commodores and fords with them little lights in the bumper which carnt be dimmed
