am cb radio's banned or not banned ??

hi guys, just something to chat about:

i heard that the am 40 channel cb radios are illegal as someone told me,thay heard it on the news, or in the papers that thay are banning them and that your only aloud to use UHF radio's.????

true or faulse ?

the 27mhz cb has gone the way of the BETA recorder

not ileagle just not used often
i have them in all of my vehicles so i can communicate in some semblance of privacy and a i also have the UHF 477 mhz radio for normal communications
so the answer is no not an ill eagle just a sick dodo

Yep, not illegal, as you don't need a Radio licence, under the Telecommunications Act.
They used to crack down, about 25 years ago, but there was a huge nationwide protest about it.

I am only a new bloke but was wondering if uniden scanners are illegal in New South Wales?? or if you need a permit/license for one??

the owning and listening to a scanner is not illeagle however acting on any information recieved on the scanner is illeagle

ie: a tow truck opperator can not respond to an accident heard on a scanner , they must wait for a phone call .... but as if ................
we all know that towies ALWAYS follow the rules

Thanks for that Red Sled, as I know a mate who has installed a high frequency scanner in his cruiser,he can listen to the whole deal....cops,fireys,ambo's,taxi's even some aviation and have had some worries getting caught listening!!
Its great though,Ya always know whats goin on!

yep i also have a kick ass rig (ex towie) and i enjoy listeniing to the fri and sat nite chaos of the police radio its better entertainment than the tv most times

just on that note mate. loike they said you can get one but if you get caught trying to communicate on the emergency network its the big bucks and some other stuff that you could face as a penalty for intruding the network.. also on the other note they also can track your cb signal as well. as we use that stuff on the fireground at large fires to locate vehicles by talking to them on the radio to track down the latest locations.
