Mudflaps

I am looking at putting some truck flaps on my ute...
Can anyone tell me if there are any specs that I should be aware of?
I know they cant drag on the ground as my bro found out when his truck flaps dragged and a rock flicked up and smacked a bike cop in the helmet...with a fair amount of force.

But how high should the be off the ground etc?

Would the laws vary from WA to other states?

Re: Mudflaps

im prity shore it's 100mm (10cm) off the ground ... or the gard and flap should only cover 2/3 of the wheel ..

or drop into the dip and see the blokes at the pits and see wat they say

Re: Mudflaps

Yeah true mUTHA...has anyone been yellow lickied for mudflaps alone?

Im getting a piece of angle line bolted underneath the back near the tailgate then attaching them to that so that shouldnt interfere with the tyres. I have mud spats on them as well anyway. I think we worked it out I would have about 50mm clearance with 3/4 tank full. I guess I could cut 50mm off as well then it would give me that extra space when its loaded up with esky, swag, full tank etc etc.

Re: Mudflaps

Plain white small size truck ones I think I got them from Truckline? the two of them together are the width of my ute.
Got some decals I made with my sticker man to put on them...but at this rate it will be another bloody year before I get them on haha.

Re: Mudflaps

GDay

my understanding for talking to coppers and the guy that does my rego, is that everything on the vehicle has to be above 100mm, 10cm from the ground with a full load including the driver only, but ive never seen the coppers inforcing that on utes with mud flaps.

Re: Mudflaps

They have to be 100mm off the ground with a full load! Also you can be canaried for it if they are lower.. as your ute would be classed as unroadworthy.
