Notgood Pavo virus warning in VIC

I just had this emailed to me!!

I was just talking to our dog physio and she told me that there is a major parvo outbreak in the Mornington Penninsula area. There are 25 dogs dead since Thursday that she knows of (info from Hallam Animal Emergency Centre) and of course alot more on supportive care, if they make it through.

Just wanted to post this as a warning to anyone with young dogs, babies or babies on the way. Please feel free to pass this on to anyone you know who has babies or young dogs.

I know that there were quite a few dogs with the runs at the shows at Lancefield over the weekend, but not sure if any were the beginnings of parvo - I know one lady nearly lost one of her puppies but he was pulling through on Sunday.

This is sad. People who want animals should be prepared to get their pets vacinated against these things. Pets are a commitment like children & a new pet owner should be aware of the cost of raising & caring for an animal.
I hope that this all gets cleared up soon, its so sad to hear of animals losing their life that may not have happened if their owners took more care.

Even if you do get the vaccination from it there is no gurantee on it.. I had a Rhondesian ridgeback and he was vaccinated and at 7months he got parvo didnt take long for it to work its way through and i had to have him put down.... Its a gamble with vaccinations... no offence or anything...

NO offence taken, am sorry to hear about your pup.
All vacinations are a gamble, not only in animals but humans too, & whilst you took care of your animal & got it vacinated, there was more than likely someone out there that didnt get their animal done & that has contributed to spreading the disease around, & your baby pup picked it up. Once again, sorry to hear about you puppy.

Re: Pavo virus warning in VIC

Hey im all for vaccinating espcially for parvo but in some cases i think its just better not too... Yeah i was sorry to.. was a lovely puppy i now have 3 dogs that are fantastic and i havent had any problems with parvo or any other disease and none of them are vaccinated but the again none of them come off the property and no other dogs come on.. I just feel bad seeing all those dogs in the city getting it quiet frequently... its an awful disease for a dog to catch... hope that none of you guys have to go through it... And thanks st susie
