Brad and Sue Newham

Brad Newham, who owns Outback 4WD (along with his wife Sue), is a qualified motor mechanic, a keen four wheel driver and remote country traveller.

After completing his apprenticeship and working at several different workshops, Brad established his own mechanical repair shop in South Australia specialising in all types of repairs. In 1996 he and Sue took on the challenging task of managing and running the remote Birdsville Auto Repair Centre in the small isolated outback community of Birdsville in South Western Queensland.

Situated as it is, on the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert there was no better place to gain the knowledge and experience of what works and doesn't work in a harsh outback environment. Every aspect of four wheel drive maintenance and repair work was carried out at the centre.
Long distance recovery work deep into the desert, as well as along the notorious Birdsville Track and other remote tracks in the region, was also a common occurrence.

Brad and Sue's friendly manner and extensive knowledge, meant that the Birdsville Auto Centre was soon the place to go, before or after a crossing of the desert, and whether you needed repair or maintenance work done on a vehicle, or not. Brad became well known in the industry and as a result he was contacted and used by the specialist 4WD magazines, including 4x4 Australia Magazine, to act as their outback specialist and joined a number of their expeditions as the chief mechanic. Along with this, Brad also assisted as a judge on 4x4 Australia's 4x4 Of The Year.

After three intensive years at Birdsville, and with the experience gained there, Brad and Sue moved to Melbourne and established Outback 4WD
