Re: help bluey with exhaust systems

Sorry Peta, but maybe only to some old deaf person.
Im sorry to dissapoint anyone hear but im not a fan of even trying to make 6 cylinder's or rice burners sound good.
If you have a V8 by all means go for it.
My ute has twin 2.5inch out each side out of pacemaker extractors. To answer your question peta, some ppl rekon mine sounds like a V8 too. That's coz it is!!! LOL

There is alot of options out there bluey, just depends how load u wanna go, without it sounding gay.

There's nothing wrong with modifying exhausts on 6 cylinders, I did the same thing with my old XR6!!

Bluey- your best option would be to talk to someone at an exhaust shop, or if you hear something you like on a ute, ask them what type of system they have.

Re: help bluey with exhaust systems

Just go for a single 2.5" catback system with some form of sports muffler in it. Make sure you have a decent muffler in there or it'll droan and that'll drive you nuts! Simple enough, not overly pricey at all and gives basically as good a note as you can expect from the ol 3.8L V6 in the VS. Just remember to go for a sports exhaust for it as opposed to something that is loud. Loud in the V6 = baaaaaad! Sounds horrid!!!

You could spend $1000 plus on doing the full system (extractors, new hiflow cat and 2.5" system) but its just not worth the extra money. I did this on my VS and in hindsight it wasn't worth the dollars - just cat back would have given me the same result essentially.

Another thing I'd suggest you do is get the air intake they put on the supercharged V6 motors. It sits over your radiator and changes the base of the airbox. Improves the note a little and of course improves airflow in. Plus it fills the engine bay in a little bit! Probably set you back around $100 from memory.

So for somewhere around $180-300 for the cat back exhaust plus the different air intake - you'll get an improved exhaust note, some more power maybe around 10kW. And also fuel economy may increase also.

Re: help bluey with exhaust systems

don't worry about practicality. make it as loud as you can. everyone will know when your coming then. twin 3" straight through from the cats with 18" hotdogs. dump them out just behind the rear wheels for the wank factor. if you wanna spend a little bit extra bung some extractors to refine the sweet note.

Re: help bluey with exhaust systems

go for a 3inch system with a couple of resinators straight through will growl like a tiger throw a set of extractors on as well
