Rep Power: 3 ![]() | The Dogs Wifes' WB Tonner Some of you may know that I bleed blue; IE I am a Ford man. So you will be stunned to find that I acquired a 1982 WB One Tonner. Cost me the princely sum of 1 box of thirty cans...which I then helped to drink. Anyway we completely dismantled this thing to find that the cab was absolutely cactus. It had more tinworm in it than anything I've ever seen before. To top it off, the previous owner had patched it up with fibreglass. By the time I had removed all the 'glass round the back window the whole lot was gone. So another cab was in order. After much hunting I couldn't find a tonner cab in SA for a reasonable price that wasn't stuffed. Just so happened that a mate about 50 metres down the road had a WB ute with no engine, gearbox or diff. Also had no front end....and NO RUST!!!! So I purchased this (for more than the original tonner) and dragged it home, which was an exercise in itself, as the photos show. I cut this at the back of the "wings" which run down to the styleside tray. By boxing this in I've created a space cab, which is something a little different. What I must add (for the knockers out there) that my wife has been out in the shed with me, along with my kids, including my daughter, throughout the build, helping with dismantling, cleaning, cutting and even the welding. At this point a mate wrote off his EF falcon which presented a unique opportunity. I cut the panel out with the fuel flap in it out, and welded it into the side of the ute. Then I fitted all the associated solenoids and cables. This presented several challenges, but after much bad language and burns, it all appears to work properly. The cab is now in it's underwear awaiting me to finish the chassis rebuild. Anyway, enough dribble. Here comes the pics. Let me know what you think ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: The Dogs Wifes' WB Tonner Thanks guys . Finally straightenring the bullbar etc.....Luckily I didn't have to tow it far like that. In the end we had to use a 4wd as the old xh just bogged down and wouldn't move....dug some nice holes tho.....and generated a reasonable amount of smoke too ![]() Will update when I get some more $$$ and time (in that order)

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: The Dogs Wifes' WB Tonner Update time. Chassis is painted, rear suspension and diff is back in. Fitted Nolathane bushes to the entire suspension. Jemima has cleaned up the wheels. Still has a few different grades of wet and dry to go but they are looking a million bucks. Cab has been dropped on the chassis temporarily. As expected, a few things (fuel lines etc) didn't line up real good so I've got some more cutting, grinding and welding to do. But the big news is I got a WB Statesman front for the old girl....for 325 bucks, complete with bugger all rust Enuf rabbiting, heres the pics..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Why has the two rear cross bars on the chassie (rear cross bar and the bars that holds the spear tyre ) been removed ? and at the front of the chassie where the rad support bolts on has been cut back just a little bit ??? any reason or just like that when ya got it and is it going to make getting it lic hard?

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: The Dogs Wifes' WB Tonner Thanks Trashman. As far as I know the front is standard however you're right in saying that both the rails at the rear are gone. The one for the spare was removed because the gas tank was fitted there. I cut all the brackets off as soon as I got the ute as the Tank etc was gone. As for the rear one, I cut that off because somebody had actually extended the chassis by about 6 to 8 inches and had done it poorly. The wleding was terrible. I haven't worked out what I am going to put back in there as it comes down to how I make the tray which is a fair way down the track yet........

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: The Dogs Wifes' WB Tonner It's been a while. Been busy with Deni and a few other things. Some of you may know what happened to me, my wife and my ute (The Dog/Mud Mongrel/Dust Dog) at Deni and that has kept me busy for a bit. For those of you who don't know what happened, that is a story for another thread. Anyway, have got into the bodywork a bit further. The Bonnet has been puttied since these pics were taken and work has started on the drivers side door. Hopefully will have that finished by the weekend, then the dash has to be dummy assembled as I am not using a GTS dash. The idea is to use the WB dash as a base but then create something of a hybrid of my own design. I can then create my own wiring looms. rebmove and rebuild the engine, splash some paint around.......it's all easy to say....guess I'm not as close to finished as I had myself convinced ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
