| So Whats A Country Person... Really?? So Whats A Country Person... Really?? Well i was just in deep thought at work this afternoon when i wondered "What classifies someone to call themselves a country girl or boy?" These days i seem to hear a few people claiming to be country when really they have never actually lived there. Should these people really call themselves country or wait until they have lived out bush for awhile and really experienced what happens out here? I think of myself as a country girl, purely for the simple fact that i was born and raised here.... and the country has been my home right from the start and that hasnt changed i really cant stand the city, no offence all you city loving beaututers. I dont mean to offend anyone on the site with this thread and im sorry if i do but yeh people really do think about where you stand before you start calling yourself country...

I'm probably the most "city" beaututer but here's my two cents: I'm as opposed to fakers as the next person, most decent folk see right through anyone like that anyway and there's nothing to be gained from it. I grew up in Canberra and have lived here all my life, so most people (country or otherwise) just assume I'm some shallow yuppie public servant and leave it at that. They never bother to learn that I slogged my guts out at the local stables for ten years as a volunteer so I could get a paying job as a stablehand and buy my first horse, or that I pissed off after school and traded uni for ag college because it was what I'd always wanted to do. I'd never dare to call myself country since i'm far from it, but it really frustrated me when I went to Ag College to try and get into something I was really interested in - only to be treated like I was a moron because I didn't grow up in the bush like everyone else. And fair enough - anyone needs to prove themselves in a situation like that - but even after putting in the hard yards you still get treated like an outsider. I guess there are a lot of try hards out there calling themselves country, but there are also a fair few people who were just born in the wrong place I guess! Anyway that's my rant lol ![]()

Fairenough some people were born and raised int he wrong part of the state, i know where you coming from when u talk about the Ag College part, i have seen so many of so called friends picking on the city kids because they dont think they can do just as gooder job, but half the time the city kids do better....

| Re: So Whats A Country Person... Really?? MY OPINION: Look there are alot of city people that drive utes out there but as True Aussie said most havent experianced the country them selfs, people think living in the country is an easy life, most dont realise the work that goes into it.. i know that as i lived in the city when i was growing up and ill tell ya what id never move back to the city, country is my life now im a country girl now and i wouldnt change that for anything.. but everyones opinion on this will be diffrent...

| Re: So Whats A Country Person... Really?? Well i was born in Rockingham WA (now classified as a suburb of Perth) But for 15 years i was raised in a small country town called North Dandalup about 15 mins north of Pinjarra. Then when our family moved from there after i graduated high school we went to Mandurah for about six months. Then i went off on my own working as a rousy, farmhand, then into hospitality and moved every 3-6 months round the state. I think the most i ever lived in one spot was a year at Borden, in the south-west, till i finally met my partner and came to Esperance and have been living for the past two years. Also worked in an underground mine near Norseman for about a year, but i think even though you live in the city but grew up out in the scrub some people have to go live there due to unforseen circumstances like lack of work or drought. I think you are what is inside your heart, and for me i'm a country girl because that's the way i wanted to be.

| Re: So Whats A Country Person... Really?? As my mate Lee Forster once said to me... "There's a difference between a Country Boy and a Farm Boy." Just because you've never lived in the country, or on a farm doesn't mean you're not country. It's what's inside (your heart or head)that makes you country or not.

Really?? i was born in sydey, in the city, but i have lived in the country nearly all my life. my grandparents own 3 stations/properties in country n.s.w both my parents were born and lived in country towns, my son was born i a country town. i think country is living and knowing the country. you dont have to listen to country music, wear wrangler/wetern clothes or drive a ute really. i have always driven a ute, since i had my lisence. i call myself country, eventhough i was born in sydney. but i do that because i love the country and could never go to the city to live but just because you live in the city doesnt mean your not country either! its all about your frame of mind i think. living in deni at the moment, its concidered a country town, but it feels to me like broderline city because im used to living in towns with around 150 people. what is a country town anyway these days? i dont think any one has rights to choose who is country and who isnt ! if you love the country, admire the country and are proud to say your country, arent you country? cheers. |

I wouldnt classify myself as a country girl but I wouldn't classify myself as a city girl either, I grew up on the coast 5 mins away from the beach. I now work and live in the eastern suburbs and it is such a different pace to growing up on the coast, everyones shitty and in a hurry. I love the country, I love being an aussie and I guess growing up in the country gives you a different outlook and attitude to life. |
