| Vet Bills! Hi just wanna have a whinge about the cost of vet bills! About 2 months ago our dog got hit by a car and it cost us $500 just to tell us he had no broken bones and was just a bit sore and bruised. Now today my boyfriend was back down at the vet after the dog broke one of his canine teeth whilst playing tug of war with our other dog. We paid the $65 consultation with the vet who refered us on to a dental surgeon with an estimated price of $800 to $1000 to do a bloody root canal on a dog!!!! Anyone else copped any whopping big vet bills??

But I think it a good idea, I'm not sure of the cost of it either all I know is that there is a scheme out there to help you with your vet bills. And it could paid to look around for it. |

| Re: Vet Bills! Bushranger 36 - you're thinking of Pet Insurance -- kinda like health insurance for humans. They work like Medicare - you pay the bill & get reimbursed after submitting some paperwork. Mz VZ.....may I ask why the vet has suggested root canal treatment for a chipped canine?? If your dog is a pup, there is a chance the canine tooth could fall out & the adult ones comes through - otherwise, maybe just get it filed down to remove any rough/sharp areas on it.... Sounds to me the vet is just trying to pass on work to a mate....However, if your dog does have some dental issues, ignore what I've said and go with the vets option or get a second opinion!! If you go for a second opinion, ask the second vet if they will do the consultation for free or at a discounted price - most vets may say yes because if you like what they say, you'll go back there & they'll get your business....

Our main boy broke his back hock in the Horsham cup years ago. we was winning, then he just stopped... smashed so many bones hes leg was held together with screws, cost about $7,000+ flying him to special surgons, the operations, after all the treatment with altrasound and all that hi tech crap to help the bones heal faster.. After all that we were told he could never race again, to sell at stud he was worth a mint but we decided to keep him as a pet. Yeah vet bills can be bloody expensive, but there are some occasions where the anaiml has done so much for you that you repay the favor.
