Exclamation HORSE FLU!

All movements of horses banned in NSW
Please pass on this e-mail to all horse people you know.
Following the confirmation of Equine Influenza in horses stabled at Centennial Park in the centre of Sydney, the NSW Minister for Agriculture has issued an order to cancel all horse events and ban all horse movements in NSW. The horse "standstill" is on for at least 72 hours.
We urge all horse owners and riders not to transport their horses and to avoid making contact with other horses. They should thoroughly wash after contact with their horses. They should also watch out for any symptoms of infection in their horses, like a raised temperature, nasal discharge and coughing, and if present, report this firstly to their vet and, particluarly if groups of horses are involved, call the disease emergency hotline 1800 675 888.
All equestrian events in NSW are to be called off pending further information on the extent of the Equine Influenza outbreak.
• Minimise movements of horses and movement of people between groups of horses.
• Maintain a high level of personal hygiene: It's best to shower and change clothes.
• Watch out for any symptoms of infection in horses, like a raised temperature, nasal discharge and coughing, and if present, report this firstly to their vet and, particluarly if groups of horses are involved, call the disease emergency hotline 1800 675 888.

Re: HORSE FLU!

This is not good at all. I have 2 horses of my own in Duffy's forest and there is a horse there that was moved from centenial park before the ban was placed. Hoepfully people aren't silly enough to take their horses out as it would be a huge loss for my selfbut also many other horse owners. Hopefully there isn't too many deaths from this, fingers crossed.

Re: HORSE FLU!

well it is having a devastating affect on the Kalgoorlie race round. At this stage it doesnt look like the races are going to go ahead. this is usually a huge few weeks in Kal, i think they are going to have alternative races(maybe sheep, camel)
but it doesnt just affect the horses. A friend how was meant to be working race isnt know, another who is a jockey, well his career is on hold as there are no rides anywhere, my brothers company who where doing all the catering for tent land and functions throughout race round have ordered all this food and no use for it

Re: HORSE FLU!

Horse-free Birdsville Races a possibility

http://abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/08/28/2017083.htm
For the first time in its 125 year history, the famous Birdsville Races may go ahead this weekend without horses.
Horses cannot travel to the tiny outback western Queensland town as the national horse transport ban has been extended until Friday.
Birdsville Race Club president David Brook says it is a great disappointment.
"The total lockdown on the movement of horses remains, well we won't be able to get the horses here," he said.
"Disappointing for all the patrons who would want to see horse racing and businesses who have planned for the event ... and obviously it would be a lesser event without the horses."
Mr Brook believes guidelines published on the Queensland Racing website today may offer the club an exemption on horse travel.
However, he says that possibility remains unlikely.
Meanwhile, this weekend's Richmond campdraft has been postponed.
The Saxby Round-Up committee is hopeful its event will still go ahead later this month.

Re: HORSE FLU!

Bugga botu Birdsville dilemma!!

Could be a quiet summer coming up if it doesn't clear up soon - on the upside less spending money on campdrafts - and more spending money on toys!!
