Angry Ugly Parent Syndrome

Have you ever witnessed Ugly Parent Syndrome?
Quote:

UKRAINE'S Kateryna Zubkova competed at the world swimming championships today, less than 24 hours after police obtained an intervention order against her father on her behalf.
Zubkova won her 50m backstroke heat in 29.37sec, more than half a second faster than her entry time, but not fast enough to qualify for this evening's semi-finals.
Zubkova smiled to the small crowd after the race, but avoided reporters as swimming officials escorted her away from the media mixed zone at Susie O'Neill Pool.
Police last night obtained an order preventing her father and coach, 38-year-old Mikhail Zubkov, coming within 200 metres of her after footage of a physical altercation between the pair in the athletes' marshalling room was aired on television.
Police superintendent Mick Williams said the images were "disturbing" and police held concerns for the girl's safety.
Zubkova was interviewed by police last night and examined by a doctor, who found she was not injured, Williams said.
"The advice I've got is she was quite open and frank and did not hold back about what the incident was about," he said.
Zubkov was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
Swimming's world governing body FINA has revoked his accreditation and is making its own investigation into the matter.
Melbourne 2007 director Michael Scott said the incident was "unacceptable" at the world championships.
"It is unacceptable in Australia, it is unacceptable anywhere else in the world that sort of behaviour," Scott said.
"It is a very serious matter."
Zubkova is entered to compete again at the world championship in the 200m backstroke heats on Friday

THE Ukrainian swim who was involved in an ugly scuffle with his daughter during the world swimming championships in Melbourne yesterday faces a possible life ban from FINA events.
Mykhaylo Zubkov, 38, was filmed pushing and shoving daughter Kateryna Zubkova during an altercation in a marshalling area at Susie O'Neill pool last night.
FINA - the governing body of international swimming - immediately revoked Zubkov's accreditation before convening a disciplinary panel today to decide his fate.
Under its constitution, FINA can impose a range of sanctions on the coach, including expulsion - a life ban - suspension, a fine or a warning.
The panel is not expected to make a decision today.
Kateryna returned to the pool this morning, winning her heat in the women's 50m backstroke.
She clocked 29.37sec, more than 0.5sec faster than her entry time, but it was not fast enough to qualify for the semi-finals. She was 18th fastest.
Kateryna smiled to the small crowd after the race but avoided reporters, with swimming officials escorting her away from the mixed media zone.
Zubkov was banned last night from contacting his daughter or going within 200 metres of her after Victoria Police was granted an intervention order on Kateryna's behalf.
Zubkov was bailed of his own undertaking and ordered to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
Police are also investigating whether criminal charges can be laid.
The incident has stunned the world's elite sports community.
Former swim star Kieren Perkins said "ugly parent syndrome" was not rare in sport, but it was career destroying.
"As a father (I was) shocked, just unbelievable," Perkins, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner, said on Southern Cross radio.
"You know that stuff goes on, but to actually see it is extraordinarily confronting, and there's just never a justification for it.
"As a swimmer, it's not the first time I've seen it.
"And it probably won't be the last time I see it."
Australian Sports Commission acting chief executive Brent Espeland said all Australian sporting bodies agreed that strong preventive action had to be taken to ensure that such incidents did not become a common occurrence.
Melbourne 2007 chief executive Michael Scott said organisers had steps in place to ensure the swimmer's welfare was protected.
"Like most people, I found what I saw last night on the vision distressing, disturbing and unacceptable, and FINA have acted promptly by withdrawing the accreditation, which means the coach cannot come into any (swimming) venue anymore," Scott said on Southern Cross radio.
"There was a prompt response by the Victorian Police.
"We have a Victorian Police presence on site, and they dealt with the matter very efficiently and effectively to ensure that there was a separation between the athlete and the coach."
Victoria Police Superintendent Mick Williams did not know if the father's passport had been withheld, but he said that police hoped to conclude investigations before the Ukrainian team left Melbourne at the end of the week.
Kateryna was interviewed by police and examined by a doctor, who found she had not been injured in the "disturbing" attack, Supt Williams said.
"The advice I've got is she was quite open and frank and did not hold back about what the incident was about."

Re: Ugly Parent Syndrome

Ive seen it in AUSKICK FOOTY- under 9's and stuff.

Its awefull to see it some poor kid made to perform, then if they dont they get an arse kicking. its not on.

My parents never made me do anything, they strongly enocourged that i have a go, and try it out. but they respected my decision to quit footy, and cricket.

I was never a real sports man- i was fit enough, and had the coordination but never had the skills to do well.

I remember in my last yr of footy, i was happy if i adveraged 2 kicks a game. hell i was even happy if i got creamed by some huge ruck man!

But anyway, i find it unnacceptable for this sorta stuf to go on in sport.

Re: Ugly Parent Syndrome

my parents where encouraging but never pushed us kids, it was our decision what we played and how we went about it.
when i played Hockey, netball and did swimming they were at every game to watch me and i cant remba a bad word coming out of their mouths.
When i gave up swimming and hockey they supported me with that choice.
I believe there support hhas got me to where i am today with my netball.

Re: Ugly Parent Syndrome

My youngest son used to play soccer in the under 10 I have seen parents abusing there kids both physically and verbally abusing the refs and one parent pushing a lines man to the ground and screaming at him over a call At an under 8s game the police had to call after one of the kids mothers hit a kid from the opposing team after he scored a goal [her son was the goal keeper] If you think sports mothers and fathers are bad you should see the carry on at dance schools both my [daughters did dancing] You would think that the kids where trying out for the royal ballet

Re: Ugly Parent Syndrome

I don't think this incident didn't had anything to do with sport, it was apparantly about her boyfriend.
