Help me quit Smoking...

I've made the decision to quit smoking, and it's gonna be hard.
Everyone else I work with smokes, and it's a damn good excuse to stop working for 5 minutes and relax.
I've been feeling really sick, and i figure smoking isn't helping at all, so as soon as this packet is finished I'm gonna quit.
Anyone got any tips or advice, especially for working around others who smoke?

i asked my father about this who was once a very heavy smoker and he said the best thing to do is stay as far away as possible from other smokers and keep yourself occupied when you really want a fag to distract your self

I'm not gonna be able to stay away from the smokers coz theyre all around me smoking all day

i guess it will be hard for ya, ive never been addicted so i cant give you much personal advice except look at what they are doing as something you hate, something you think less of them for (you dont actually have too but just mentally) instead of seeing it as something you think you want to do but cant. think of it as something youve never wanted to do... or just make them quit too, i find throwing their ciggies on the ground and blowing the packet away with a shot gun actually works.

I just rang Quitline and got heaps of good advice... They're sending me a quit pack.
Got a lot to do... This is gonna be hard.
But seriously, $80 a week, dang.
I've been told to reward myself daily/weekly for not smoking- to help myself get through each day. Then, after that, I can start putting that money away to get something nice

Like..... SHINY THINGS FOR MY UTE!

I do a proposal to you: whenever you have desire to smoke, it removes from your pocket the same amount that costs to buy a new box of cigarettes...... and keeps that money in a strong box...... when finalizing the week....busca what you have saved, and it buys what you can in a toy, for boy or girl, and takes that toy to the hospital, or to the orphanage more closest to your community...... and watches the face of that recive.......
and it tells us if the effort, is worth the trouble well

I gave it up nearly 3 Years ago now. My boss at the time also gave up. It was handy having someone to bounce off when times were tough.

I ended up chewing Nicorette Gum. It tastes like absolute crap, but it gave me the "Quick Hit" similar to having a Smoke.
Easy to wean off them too, just go onto chewing normal Gum (Extra Etc) instead.
I've seen people get addicted to the Lozenges, so watch them.
Tried Patches once, no success whatsoever.

Good Luck, drink plenty of water, and be prepared to eat more too!

I gave up about 4 years ago now and I haven't looked back. When I was giving up you could still smoke in pubs which was REALLY hard. At least now there aren't many places you can smoke so social occasions should be a bit easier. I had to cut out a lot of socialising with a few of my mates for a while because they smoked and it was just too hard to be around them at the beginning. Stay possitive, motivated and remember that it WILL make you feel better once you get past that first couple of weeks.

My mum quit and she said the only way she could was to replace the cigarette habit with another habit ... so for a long time she would grab a piece of chewie and then moved on to Diet Cokes... If you are strong enough to withstand the craving for nicotine the next issues to face is the habit... Finished eating - have a smoke. Bored - have a smoke. So its a case of finding what works for you to replace the habit.

I don't know anyone who's managed to kick the habit with the patches...
