how do you know if you have true mates?

righto guys heres a question how do u really know if ya ave true mates cause at the moment i kinda dont ave a clue who i would call a true mate feeling quite lost. so yer anyone got any ideas

I have this theory.
You have mates, friends and aquaintances.
Mates are the people who are more than aquaintances and you spend time with, have a laugh or whatever. They are up the ladder a rung from aquaintances and some are really good ones.
Friends are up the next rung in the ladder from mates. They are the ones that you have more of a connection with and if you happened to leave the circle of mates you're in for whatever reason then your friends would still keep in contact with you.
True friends are there no matter what. You may not see them alot but can generally pick up from where you left off when you saw them the last time. They will also drop everything for you and vice versa. You generally don't have alot of these but the ones you do have you treasure. They will be there through the good times and the bad.

So there's my theory. I don't give my friendship very easily, cos it's a sh!t when it's taken back. Got heaps of mates, some more speciall than others but the true friendship's I do have I will have forever and they are the ones I can depend on when going through crap and also the ones I want to share my good times with (which I'm sure will happen again soon).

Hope that long winded speach has helped you a bit and hope that you figure out who your true friends are. They don't come around often and it's quite alright to have mates. After all that's how most true friendships start.

A good freind will come to the cop shop at 2am and bail ya out but a REALY good frerind will be beside you saying DAM WE F*&KED UP!!...lol

kaz kinda got it on one..
when i was 18 i found i had lots and lots of mates and i was running around trying to keep up with them all and i was not enjoying my self so in the end i graded ppl like kaz and found i was better off for it ...

i have also found that a lot of ppl say there ya good mate but in truth a lot of ppl just dont seem to know how to be a freind at all i have been used and lost $$$$ on ppl who said there where my mate...

Not so long ago some thing happend to me and i some wat hit rock botten really really hard over night i would have not pulled out of it as quickly as i did if it was not for a few really good mates who rallyed around me ... some of witch i didnt think they put so much onus on our friendship as i hadnt known them long at all and out of it i found out who where my mates and some realy suprised me a lot...(Speshal thanx to Willie and Ness Anna Clare and NatDeC)

Chin up Kat ... theres better ppl out there just dont wast ya time on ppl who dont do the rite thing by you and value your freindship...

True friends will always have time for you, just as you know you'll always have time for them, even if it's for a 3am phone call over something...

True friends will always stick by you- they may counsel, advise, recommend even, but whatever choice you make, they're there with you through thick and thin.

True friends will put up with you in the honeymoon phase of a relationship where you ignore them completely for a new fella/sheila... And still be there for you when the relationship breaks up.

True friends will always be honest, even if the truth hurts.

True friends have been there ever since you can remember, and you know they'll always be there...
