| Re: The Scareiest Moment Long, long time ago, was doing removals. We turned up, on this property, to do a marriage split removal. We were told in advance, there may be a "bit", of agro, as the wife was moving out. Also were told the cops were turning up, to make sure everything went ok. We says to each other, can't be that bad. We turn up, no cops in sight. Now we're wondering if this such a good idea. We drop the tailgate, to start work. Just as we're about to go into the house, the husband appears from around the corner of the house, with a double barrel shotgun, pointed at us. We froze, nearly cacked our dacks. At the same time, the cops arrive, hubby swings the shotty back and forth, from us and the cops. Not looking good !! The cops tell him to put the shotgun down. He says, not until we leave. MAAATE !!, we did'nt wait to be told twice !! We closed the tailgate, and boogied outta there. Me and the offsider, did'nt speak for about 20 minutes. If we did, must have been one syllable expletives. Never did find out what happened. Must have settled down. Nothing on the news later. He was still holding the shotgun, as we drove off. Hhhmm, got out of removals, not long after that.

| Re: The Scareiest Moment Jezz CG that would be enough to make anyone shit themselves. Better you than me!!! I also had a gun pulled on me but by the cops. Fairly long story but I really didnt do anything to major and the cop got in a fair bit of shit for it. Found out later on in internal investigations interview that the gun was fully loaded and cocked ready to fire pointed straight at my head 2 inches away. Lucky he didnt sneeze hey. | |

| Re: The Scareiest Moment this is long but an important part of my life. here goes. i had just turned 19 and went home to the farm for a couple days off. mum had gone into the town to see the doctor for suspected high blood pressure) which was to be a certaintity after this. i stayed home and was looking after my god daughter who was 3. i had just taken a phone call and was going to deliver the message to dad but the youngin wanted to go and shoot some silver eyes in the fig tree with the slug gun for the cats. the power had gone off (at 4.02pm) which wasn't unusual so we did. the phone rang about half an hour later and it was the ambos asking for a grid reference for the homestead (we lived in a house about 5kms away). i couldn't tell them anything, just kept asking what was wrong. in the end they told me not to worry, there had been an accident involving electricity and that my mum was on her way with the doctor. i was starting to panic. both of my uncles are electricians (one being the youngins dad) and couldn't understand why they were out here. i put the girl in my car, put her seat belt on and told her i was going to be going a little bit faster than i should but not to worry. i was met by our neighbour down the corner who had just been called by mum to find where the meter box was, she couldn't remember. i followed him down, got the girl out of the car. she went to the neighbour. my scariest moment........i looked around and saw that both my uncles were standing there. looked the other way and saw the guy sitting there with burns all over his face, feet and chest. i went over to the cop and asked if dad was up at the house. he just looked over and i followed the direction he was looking and saw blankets covering two bodies. mum was freaking and nobody would tell me where dad was. the two bodies were dad and grandpa. this is what the coroner come up with. they were shifting grain into the back of a truck out of a silo with an auger. grandpa must not have wound the auger down far enough and started to push it when it hit the overhead line. dad must have turned around when the engine went off and saw grandpa slumped over it (he was 86, a real tuff nut, never wore shoes except for in winter and to church) maybe thinking that he had had a heart attack. he must have raced over to him, not realising what had happened and when trying to get him off the auger was electrocuted himself. they said this was probable because of his hand prints on the auger and that one boot was blown off by such force that it was 6 feet away. dad and grandpa knew these power lines were there, they knew that they would have to be careful when etsa decided to put them there years before. there was another person involved and he received a bravery award for trying to help save their lives. but by doing this he was also badly injured and was in hospital for a long time. it was over half an hour til he regained conciousness and managed to crawl up to the house to call the ambos. he saw them in the rear veiw mirror of the truck and went to help, just a knee jerk reaction. he had been a volunteer with the ambos for the past thirty years and knew better but didn't think. scariest moment number 2........identifying the bodies. mum was hysterical, as was everyone else there, so the cops asked if i could with mum and the help of the doctor. this is sight is burned into my memory forever. a couple of morals from this tragedy.......1.LOOK UP AND LIVE!!.....2.dont judge a person by their reaction to things. the only time i really cried was when they were being buried. everyone around me was falling to peices, especially my mum and my brother (who had just turned 18). and people judged me by this, i thought i had to be strong. it wasn't until i had to leave the farm a week and a bit later that it hit me and when i got back to adelaide i was a mess. every time the power went out i would scream hysterically and be in shock for an hour. not being able to move. this is also my saddest memory and i'm kind of kicking myself for writing all this as it doesn't leave a very nice taste in my mouth, but maybe it's good therapy. we, as a family don't tend to talk about it, especially since the farm is gone now. | |
