4X4 and bullbars V's utes with bullbars

Why would it seen that if you drive a ute you can't have much more than a paper clip for a bull bar and with evan that you get targeted by the coppers but 4x4's seem to be able to get away with wat ever they like ?

and the same with spottys, ute - nun, 4x4 -40,000 ? whats the deal with this and wats the law on it ? do 4x4 come under a diff law for bull bars and spottys?

Re: 4X4 and bullbars V's utes with bullbars

Good question. I have a genuine Holden bullbar on my VZ SS...which certainly is a paper clip. If the rules are different for a 4 x 4 I may think about getting into a L/Cruiser trayback.

Re: 4X4 and bullbars V's utes with bullbars

The rules are the same for 4x4 as utes it just depends what the flavour of the month is. A few years ago when I owned a 4x4 there was debate in the media about banning bullbars on 4x4's a couple of times.

Re: 4X4 and bullbars V's utes with bullbars

Rules are the same across the board for both of these types of vehicles and there is just as much hype about 4wds with bullbars and lights as there is utes with bullbars and lights. The bullbar ADR's are the same and I know of countless 4wd owners who have been told to remove thier bars and lights as I do ute owners. Unfortunately these rules are based on safety for not only the vehicle owner but for others out on our roads as well. At times the rules don't seem fair, we all hear of mates who get pulled over by the boys in blue and told to remove items off thier vehicles, but what about the times when our mates have accidents and the airbag systems don't activate correctly? or the times when our excessive lights blind the person driving towards us? Also the majority of ute bullbars are made of Alloy, and due to the size of the vehicle tend to stand out a little more, 4wds (not toorak tractors) generally have steel bullbars, designed specifically for the vehicle and in a scale that doesn't engulf the front of the vehicle.

I'm not discriminating against owners of 4wds or owners of utes, and certainly don't want a shit fight. Those of you who know me, know where I work and what I drive and who I hang around with! So if anyone takes offence to what I have written, get over it!

Re: 4X4 and bullbars V's utes with bullbars

if i put a big four or five poster on the front of my hilux not only would it look sh*t but i would expect to get pulled over and stickered too.
also i think if the cops see a cruiser trayback with a big bullbar and a VY SS ute with a big bullbar they will more then likely check out the VY because although it might not be right, it is easy to think the cruiser has a genuine reason for the bar and is only in town for work or a short time.

No problems with wat you have said here ...
(and to clear it up im just not refuring to just 4x4 utes but all 4x4)

To be honest every one knows that the laws for 4x4 would be the same as for every thing else i was kinda being sicastic when i posted this thred
In my aria theres about 5 4x4 (utes and wagons) with big bullys that lean fwd and have sharp edges and have 4 lightforce 240 blits across the top and a nother 4 on the bullbar ... and the copers dont look twice but a VU with 3 spottys ( mounted correctly ) gets told to take them off ??

it just seems to me that theres a hell of a lot of 4x4 in the city that only have bullbars to look good wich never get any where near off road use that would be far more dangers and pose a by far greater threat to the pedestrans than country utes with a bullbar yet i dont put a bullbar on my ute when i can hit a 6foot roo in my own drivway becose of the hassil just isnt worth it ...

All in all it just seems to be a diff law for the utes and a diff law for the 4x4 ...

Well Pegasus has an advantage in that she looks like a 4x4; but she isn't; she sits high off the ground at stantard height; and yes I need the 5 poster as you meet a lot of roos on the way home from late or night shows. Admittedly I got a few funny looks when we were still living in Logan; but then again you don't meet too many roos on city streets.

the city 4x4s are a pet hate of mine. but you sort of gave away the answer to the question there. the ongoing debate about 4x4s in the city being to dangerous. the polititions tend to argue the safty of them as it is nevermind the accesories.
