Bullbar pricing!

Why are bullbars so pricy? i was talking to a mate who said the materials that companies like SW Platt and BnSgear.com etc use are at a max. $900 for materials, so say it takes them a day to weld it all together so a boiler makers is on say $80 an hour and give him 10 hours so another $800 bucks. this only amounts to a total of $1700 bucks and we pay $3000-$4600 depending on the bullbar specs and the company.

that is a massive profit and i reckon its absolute B.S that they sluggin us this much just for something we can make at home!

Thats like anything 100% markup from manufacturing costs to retail, consider all the stuffing around, time lost and other expenses encountered for them to achieve that sale. If you can make it yourself go ahead, and if you want to change things make them for others at cost.

thats it its not a queastion of how much your willin to pay if you want that bar and you want it bad enough youll pay there price its just the way it goes

thats why i shopped around and found a bloke that was willing to build to my specs and all up including fitting (done on a saturday with a half a carton) was only 2200, no way was i payin 3500 for a basic 5 poster

if your on a budget, finding a cheap used unit, and throwing a couple of slabs at a mate that can do fab work or getting stuck into it yourself would have to be a solution

yeah well i spoke to a boiler maker at work today and he said if i did the CAD drawing for him with measurements etc and provided the material he would be able to weld it up in under a day with a mig welder, would have the really flash looking weld and polished finish on the welds but they would be equally as strong as a tig but done in a third of the time.

btw if anyone wants a CAD drawing of a standard 5 poster i can send it to them but they will need google sketch it to view it and make modifications

yeah but that for a BA not a VU lol unless u know something like the BA bars will fit a VU SS then ill be happy lol

it would take a lot longer than one day to assemble, weld out, polish, and paint one of those bars. thats without fabricating the parts. And I know what I'm talking about. I worked at a place for 3 years and started my apprenticeship at a place that specializes in alloy fabrication.

just a warning to ya dont buy a vy or vz bar if you get offered it i just scored one that came off a vy which suits me but the bloke bought it fr his vu and it didnt fit cos vus have wider gaurds and the headlights are different so apparently it wouldnt fit. but bonus for me cos ive got it and shes going on in about ten when me mate gets here.

if i remember the vu where about 80mm wider in the gards than the vy vz range the vu bar do fit but look ugly with the outter guard sitting leval with the out side of the bar

Are your drawings to suit VU? I have a VUII MALOO And I just want to see what a 5 poster would look like on it. we saw a VZ MALOO at Deni with one and we were all mixed on how that looked! I have google sketch so no probs using it.

in that reguard why does the VY Maloo kit fit a VU?

heh just another query on getting a mate to make your bull bar on most new cars you need to have them tested for air bags dont you ??? i always thought home made bull bars were illegal atleast i think they may be in wa. and another query.... is there a manual or book/document that states what legal and the likes for ute i remember my autos teacher saying something about it but hes a little un-knolegable. yeh the pricing is redicouls especialy for the younger guys like me who work our arses of just to get our ute
