Hey ppl,
Something thats really been shitting me at the moment is the fact they we are being called racist everytime we try to keep some of our own culture. Our home is called Australia not "ppl from other countries land". Why r we sucking up to other countries to make them happy?? some ppl from overseas who come here to live keep complaining that we don't respect their culture and aren't doin enough to make them feel welcome. well excuse me...what about respecting OUR culture. if u come to our country u have respect our values. Cause i can tell u if we aussies went overseas and started demanding they change their culture to suit us, we'd be kicked up the arse and told to go back home. Which is what i'm gonna say, Australia is one of the safest, fairest & most open minded countries in the world, if u don't like it stop bitchin and bugger off back to ur own country.

I am getting so sick of hearing "Aussie's" whinging so much!!! We are made up from people from all walks of life, religion, race and colour why can't we just accept that they are different and would like to stay that way! Why is it so wrong for them to keep their beliefs? Does it affect you directly? No?? Then stop crying about it!!! Why is everyone hell bent on making everyone "Australian"? We are suppose to be this very laid back country but all we seem to do is whinge!

They should keep their own culture i'm not saying that they shouldn't keep theirs i'm just saying they shouldn't demand so much. Maybe this will explain it better. Imagine ur house and then all of a sudden ur new friend comes in and wants to change ur furniture around and redecorate ur whole place, to create something thats not ur own space anymore. They can suggest things that u could add and take away and u'd respect that but u'd hate it if they got rid of everything that represented u. Saying we're trying to convert everyone one to "aussies" is i'm sorry to say...bull! An hey its not just the aussies who r whinging.

i agree with soph that its a good thing Australia is so multi cultural in a way, but when i get laughed at by an ethnic individual for wearing my bluey at uni, and then abused in his foreign language, which i found out basically ment "redneck" it made me want to start swinging...

Its a good point. Yes, I believe that people who come to Aussie should respect our way of life, but I dont believe they should have to change to suit it. Each person has their own beliefs and religions and traditions, which isnt a bad thing.

The thing I find annoying is when people move to Australia to escape their own country for whatever reason and to start fresh, but then they make no effort to learn English or participate in the community. A small minority move here and expect the welfare system to look after them for the rest of their lives, then get shitty when we ask them to do something in return for the money and benefits we give them. If we moved to most countries we would be expected to conform to their way of life, so is it really asking that much to ask them to respect ours? I had a mate that moved to Saudi Arabia when she was about 14 with her family and had to cover herself head-to-toe every time she left the house. It wasnt her belief, but if she didnt do it she would have been bashed or killed for being disrespectful.

I also find it annoying when people look at us funny if we wear an Akubra into town or down the street, but its not only foreigners that do that...

I hate it that people that come in expect us to understand them and their culture. Well I'm not sorry for saying this. But they are the ones who came here so you understand ours, and like it has been said if you don't like it take the next plane back to where you came from. And why do we have to bend over for the minority like when it come to christmas and easter. They say that we are offending them. Stiff is all I have to say to this. We are Australian's first and formost and if they don't want to become one of us okay but don't let them throw their crap down our throat and expect us to say that's all okay. They have to show rescept to our flag weather they like it or not. No I'm not a racist but I will stand up for my nation and what it is and if that hit a sore spot on some so be it.
