Unhappy THE BLACK DOG

So who here suffers from depression, or has suffered from it in the past or has been affected by it?

Feel free to tell us about it!

The Black Dog is a term in which the former British Priminister Sir Winston Churchill referred depression as... The Black Dog which was always by his side.

Personally I think it is a shame, you tell people and they think your a freak and avoid you, maybe it just scares them.

That is what I have noticed.

Re: THE BLACK DOG

I have not had depression, or what i percieve as depression.

But i feel it is a awful thing to witness and needs to be looked upon differntly by society.

I heard a story about a dairy farmer from northern VIC, who took his 40 odd cows to the saleyards, as he had no feed for them.

The STUPID agent told him that he wasnt booked in and he would have to take them home and book in for next week as they were full.

THe bloke went home, shot all the cows on his farm, and then shot himself.

4 people every week commit suicide in NSW because of drought related issues, and depression in general.

Not a good thing.

As wrong as it is, life will go on, and face the postives in your life, forget the troubles and remember tomorrow is always a new day

Re: THE BLACK DOG

I know how you feel there Billy.. When you really need someone to talk to there seems to be no one around. When im really depressed, i'll stay away from everyone, wont answer the fone, wont turn the pc on, and just have my kids and dog around.Ill have days where ill just sit at home and cry, over nothing and what makes it worse is when i sit and think about how im the black sheep in my real family and no one wants me around. But i am also lucky to have the adopted family i have, they show me that they love me and dont care what i have done in the past or what i may have said. It normally takes me a few weeks to get back to wanting to be with people and they dont really understand!!

If people dont like me for me thats something they have to deal with. When im feeling down (like the last 2 days) it has been on my mind, but mum says to me.. DONT WORRY ABOUT THE THINGS YOU CANT CHANGE AND WHAT YOU THINK PEOPLE THINK OF YOU.
All that really matters is the fact that my family, kids and my dog are here and im happy.

Re: THE BLACK DOG

Many people that suffer from depression are too ashamed to admit and it takes a lot of courage and guts to admit it... There are many different types of depression and different stages, it could be triggered by anything from braking sumthing to sumone saying sumthing that hurts.

Just remember your not the only one and so many people want to be there for you when you need it all you have to do is ask...

I have suffered from bouts of depression for the past two years it comes and goes all the time but im learning to deal with it my own way without having to turn to anti depressents... just remeber dont be affraid to speak up

Re: THE BLACK DOG

Landline did a special show yesterday (sunday) about depression in farmers, it sure does open your eyes to how much sumthing can affect a life, it was a great documentary.

Re: THE BLACK DOG

after dad died, i went F#$Kin loopy, i wouldn't seek any help, they tried to force me to seek help and that just made it worse and try as they might i just wouldn't open up to my family, my friends at the time abandoned me, and it just seemed like there was no end in sight, so for the last 3 years it has just been an uphill battle, i tried ending it all twice and didn't succeed. SEEK HELP PEOPLE, and don't be afraid. it has ruined my life and my relationship with my family. and im only now starting to get back on track.
