I understand where you are coming from. I live in the same area and class myself as niether city or country. I also know the stretch of road between Byford and Armadale- I drove it every night for 13 years when I was on night shift.
I would not be without a bar on my car, especially driving at night.
So people can judge me if I need a bar or not- but its my choice and I feel it is needed
