One thing I did learn is that you need to talk to someone because “you can’t just snap out of it”. I have suffered depression, anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I had to talk to someone because at one stage I had become house bound…I could not leave my house for about 12 weeks.
Sometimes your immediate family don’t know what to do because they fear the situation or they just don’t understand…one thing they should do is talk.
I feel there is still a stigma attached to the illness. When I have a toothache I’m not about to sit around suffering the pain…I’ll go to the dentist. It goes with mental illness…I will go to see a counsellor. Counsellors are available to staff where I work…they can join the dots for you. I encourage anyone who may feel overwhelmed or confused at any time in his or her life to please talk to someone. |
Sounds like you have exactly the same as me mate, I have been diagnosed as having very similar, plus I believe I also have a form of PTSD ... but I am getting there slowly but surely, been battling it for quiet sometime now ... I am in the Navy and cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me ... its amazing. I am not ashamed of it, nor do I wear it as a badge of honour ... but it has definately made me more wiser, more compassionate and hopefully one day I will use the skills I am learning to help others in need.
